Step 2: Place the Hotspot Quick Settings Tile

For AutoSpot to toggle your mobile hotspot, the Hotspot tile must be placed on the very first page of your Quick Settings drawer. AutoSpot uses Android's Accessibility feature to simulate a button click on your behalf. Because Accessibility services can only click what is currently rendered on screen, the tile must be visible immediately when the panel slides down without needing to swipe left or right.

Google Pixel / Motorola

  1. Swipe down twice from the top of your screen to expand the Quick Settings panel.
  2. Tap the Pencil (edit) icon at the bottom-right of the tiles panel.
  3. Scroll down to find Hotspot in the inactive section.
  4. Tap, hold, and drag the Hotspot tile up into the top section, placing it on the first page of active tiles.
  5. Tap the back arrow in the top left to save.

Samsung Galaxy

  1. Swipe down twice to fully expand the quick panel.
  2. Tap the Pencil (edit) icon in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Full (or Top if you want it in the compact bar) to edit active buttons.
  4. Locate Mobile Hotspot. Drag it into the active grid on the first page of buttons.
  5. Tap Done to save your changes.

OnePlus / Oppo

  1. Swipe down twice from the top of the screen.
  2. Tap the Three vertical dots in the top-right corner.
  3. Select Edit tiles.
  4. Find Personal Hotspot (or Hotspot) in the bottom list.
  5. Tap the green + icon or drag the tile up onto the first page of active tiles.
  6. Tap the checkmark or back button to save.

Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO

  1. Swipe down from the top-right of your screen to open the Control Center.
  2. Tap the Edit icon (looks like a square with a pencil in the top-right or bottom).
  3. Find Hotspot in the list of available toggles.
  4. Drag it up into the active tiles, placing it on the very first screen.
  5. Tap Done or back to save.

Other Android Brands

  1. Swipe down twice from the top of your screen to open the full Quick Settings drawer.
  2. Look for an edit button (pencil icon, three dots, or "Edit" button) and tap it.
  3. Find the Hotspot or Tethering toggle.
  4. Drag it to the top so that it sits on the first page of active toggles.
  5. Exit the edit screen to save.
Step 3: Configure Battery Settings

To extend battery life, many phone manufacturers automatically shut down background applications after a period of inactivity. This will cause AutoSpot to miss Bluetooth connections. To fix this, you must set AutoSpot's battery usage to Unrestricted. Select your phone brand below for step-by-step instructions:

Google Pixel (Android 12, 13, 14+)

  1. Long-press the AutoSpot app icon on your home screen or app drawer and tap the Info (i) icon.
  2. Tap App battery usage (or Battery on older versions).
  3. Select Unrestricted.

Samsung Galaxy (OneUI 4, 5, 6+)

  1. Long-press the AutoSpot app icon and tap the Info (i) icon in the top right.
  2. Tap Battery.
  3. Change the setting to Unrestricted.
  4. Optional but recommended: Open your phone's main Settings, go to Device care > Battery > Background usage limits, and ensure AutoSpot is not in the "Sleeping apps" or "Deep sleeping apps" lists.

OnePlus / Oppo (OxygenOS / ColorOS)

  1. Long-press the AutoSpot app icon and select App Info.
  2. Tap Battery usage.
  3. Turn ON the switch for Allow background activity (or select Unrestricted).
  4. Turn ON the switch for Allow auto-launch.

Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO (MIUI / HyperOS)

  1. Long-press the AutoSpot app icon and select App Info.
  2. Tap Battery saver.
  3. Choose No restrictions.
  4. Return to the main App Info screen and toggle ON Autostart.

Other Brands & General Advice

  1. Go to your phone's Settings > Apps > AutoSpot.
  2. Look for options like Battery, Power Management, or Background details.
  3. Ensure that battery optimizations are disabled for AutoSpot, or set it to run without background restrictions.

Troubleshooting & FAQs

AutoSpot worked at first, but now it suddenly stopped triggering automatically. How do I fix this?

This is almost always caused by Android's aggressive battery saving features. To extend battery life, many phone manufacturers automatically shut down background applications after a period of inactivity.

You must configure your phone to set AutoSpot to Unrestricted background battery usage. Follow the brand-specific steps outline in our Battery Settings Guide.

This allows Android to deliver Bluetooth connection events to AutoSpot immediately, ensuring highly reliable activation.

If I set my Hotspot tile to be icon-only (hiding the text label), will AutoSpot still work?

Yes, AutoSpot will work perfectly. Even if you minimize the tile to hide its text label and only show the icon to save space, the underlying label is still present in Android's system code.

Because AutoSpot searches the system information rather than reading the screen visually, it can successfully find and click the tile even when it is displayed as icon-only.

My phone is set to a non-English language. Will it work?

Yes. By default, AutoSpot searches for tiles containing labels like `"hotspot"` or `"tether"`. If your phone's system language is set to a non-English language (or your carrier uses a custom label like `"Personal Hotspot"`), you can specify the exact name manually.

How to override the Hotspot matching label:

  1. Open AutoSpot and click the **Settings** gear icon.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the settings page and expand the Advanced Settings accordion.
  3. Tap Configure on the Quick Settings Hotspot Label card.
  4. Enter the exact text as it appears on your Quick Settings tile (e.g. `"Punto de acceso"` for Spanish, or `"Point d'accès"` for French).
  5. Tap **Save** and verify the configuration.
What is the Battery Guard feature?

Cellular data tethering (hotspot mode) is resource-intensive. To prevent your phone from running out of power, AutoSpot includes an automated safety cutoff called **Battery Guard**:

  • Automatic Shutdown: If your phone's battery drops below 20% and is not plugged into a charger, AutoSpot immediately turns the hotspot OFF.
  • Automation Pause: Background automation is temporarily paused while the battery remains low.
  • Auto-Restore: As soon as you plug your phone in to charge (or the battery charges above 20%), AutoSpot automatically checks if you are still connected to your Bluetooth activator and turns the hotspot back ON.

This ensures you never leave your car with a dead phone battery. You can manually override this at any time by toggling the hotspot button in your phone's system drawer.

Why does the hotspot wait before turning off when I leave my car?

Some vehicle infotainment systems cycle their Bluetooth connections multiple times when starting up or shutting down. If AutoSpot responded instantly to every brief drop, your hotspot would constantly toggle on and off, causing system lag.

To prevent this, AutoSpot features a brief disconnect debounce delay (currently 5 seconds):

When you turn off your car or walk away, AutoSpot waits a few seconds before turning the hotspot off. If your phone reconnects to your car within that window, the shutdown job is instantly canceled, keeping your hotspot active without interruption.

Feedback & Support

How do I submit logs or support feedback?

Your real-world driving data and feedback help us identify and resolve device-specific Bluetooth and automation issues.

1. When to Submit Feedback:

  • Automation Failures: The hotspot does not activate when connecting to your vehicle, or fails to deactivate on disconnect.
  • Quick Settings Shade Lag: The system pulls down the settings drawer but takes longer than 3–5 seconds to close it.
  • Bluetooth Connection Cycles: The automation toggles rapidly (flaps) during vehicle ignition.
  • Licensing Issues: Errors verifying your Premium License or subscription status.

2. How to Send Logs & Reports:

The most efficient way to submit feedback is directly through the app, which automatically generates a pre-filled diagnostic log for your current device:

  1. Open the main AutoSpot application.
  2. Tap the Settings (Gear) icon in the upper-right corner.
  3. Scroll down and tap "Send Feedback / Export Logs".
  4. Choose your preferred email client (e.g. Gmail).
  5. The app will automatically open a draft with critical device info (App Version, Android OS Version, API level, and setup status) and attach your device's rolling log (autospot_diagnostic.log).
  6. Describe the issue briefly at the top of the email body and tap Send.

3. Privacy & Data Safety:

We respect your privacy. Under our Zero-Data architecture, the logs generated locally contain zero personal information:

  • All identified Bluetooth hardware addresses (MAC addresses) are processed through a one-way cryptographic hash with a temporary salt generated in volatile memory, which is discarded instantly after export.
  • Logs contain only system events (Bluetooth connection broadcasts, UI accessibility node scans, and execution timestamps).
  • No location coordinates, contacts, text messages, or browsing details are read or recorded.
